Sourcetrunk (Episode 013)
This episode will show you the magic of MythTV and will hopefully spark your curiosity about this beautiful PVR project. Make your own TV recorder !
I. multimedia software : MythTV
MythTV is a homebrew PVR project that I've been working on in my spare time. It's been under heavy development for almost four years, and is now quite useable and featureful.
from the developer : "I got tired of the rather low quality cable box that AT&T Broadband provides with their digital cable service. It's slow to change channels, ridden with ads, and the program guide is a joke. So, I figured it'd be fun to try and build a replacement. Yes, I could have just bought a TiVo, but I wanted to have more than just a PVR -- I want a webbrowser built in, a mail client, maybe some games. Basically, I want the mythical convergence box that's been talked about for a few years now."

Show your MythTV on Video
I think that a good idea to complement this episode is to put your MythTV box on Youtbue or Google video. The problem is that most of the development of MythTV is that very few people have seen it. Even the MythTV site has really short images and very few people understand the concept of what MythTV does and what they can do and change their life.
Also is good for end users to know where they can get a pre-install MythTV like TVease and other companies. I think that MythTV as well a skype is those life changing projects that are free for most.
MythTV on video
Hi,
I'm in the process of moving my MythTV configuration from my Desktop computer to my server (in the garage). The server is turned on 24/7 and is ideal for scheduled recording.
The only problem is that I don't have cable in the garage, so I'm pulling my TV cable through walls to get there, and that is keeping me from finishing this project. I'll be done with this in probably two weeks and it's not a bad idea to tape it and put it for download.
I'll keep you all posted ;)
thanks for the feedback,
Dimi

To clarify on MythTV
Hi Dimitri,
just listened to Episode 013 but do not quite understand.
Does it mean that if anyone were to successfully setup MythTV, one could legally have free access to programs from the internet (without subscriptions) just like cable tv (with subsciption)?
Who actually provides these programs?
Mic
clarify
Hi Mic,
my fault, I had not stressed enough on the fact that the TV input comes from a Television device (for example a TV Tuner card) and you need to have cable (or another means of receiving televsion) to receive the channels.
MythTV 'merely' provides the functionality of viewing, scheduled recording, archiving TV content.
... but I must admit that when I first saw the program a few years back I also thought it was a system to share TV content (rip it from your cable and put it automatically for download for other users). Maybe something like this exists or will exist, but I doubt the legality of this sort of software (though it would be very cool software ;).
I hope I clarified this a bit and I think I will make a little addendum to episode 014 about this.
Thanks,
Dimi.

Hmm, comes to think of it, I do remember you mentioning about TV tuner card :-)
Thanks
