Sourcetrunk (Episode 001)

In this episode we will discuss Openoffice, AFD, Delineate and Electric Sheep. All open source software, ready for you to use on your Linux, BSD, MacOSX, Microsoft Windows machine. Pick your poison ;)

I. office applications : OpenOffice
OpenOffice.org is a multiplatform and multilingual office suite and an open-source project. Compatible with all other major office suites, the product is free to download, use, and distribute. www.openoffice.org

II. server applications : AFD
The Automatic File Distributor provides a framework for very flexible, non-stop, log and debug-able delivery of an arbitrary amount of files to multiple recipients www.dwd.de/AFD

III. multimedia applications : Delineate
Delineate is a tool for converting raster images to SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics) using AutoTrace or potrace. delineate.sourceforge.net

IV. the odd one out : Electric Sheep
Electric Sheep is a free, open source screen saver run by thousands of people all over the world. It can be installed on any ordinary PC or Mac. When these computers "sleep", the screen saver comes on and the computers communicate with each other by the internet to share the work of creating morphing abstract animations known as "sheep"electricsheep.org
